School Curriculum

Our Curriculum

St Joseph’s offers a curriculum which is broad and balanced and which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting points, as they progress through each Key Stage. The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum 2014 and other experiences and opportunities which best meet the learning and developmental needs of the pupils in our school.

The curriculum aims to:

  • Immerse children in learning through a whole school approach
  • Hook children into learning through a theme that has a ‘marvellous mission’ and exciting hook aimed at bringing learning to life
  • Be enriched through key texts, school visits, visitors to school and first hand practical experiences (Worksheetless)
  • Be purposeful, relevant and meaningful for all children
  • Embrace Aspiration and high expectations
  • Meet the needs of all children through differentiation and challenge
  • Driven by developing strong skills in reading, writing and maths
  • Engage parents in learning with the children through weekly task to be completed at home that contributes to the ‘marvellous mission’

Children will access daily reading, writing and maths sessions complemented by opportunities to apply the skills learnt across all areas of the curriculum. An active approach to learning is encouraged with children encouraged to have a positive attitude through mindfulness and growth mind set “Shoot for the stars” “Dare to Dream”
